SCI Japan

SCI was introduced into Japan in the 1950's. It held it's first workcamp at Nijima island off Tokyo bay, in support of a grassroot movement against the imposition of missile bases in the area. Many projects have been held since then, and themes have broadened to include working with people with disabilities, community development in remote areas and working in run down areas in major cities.

NICE Japan

Founded in 1990, NICE Japan organises a large programme of international projects throughout the year. They aim to promote exciting voluntary activities by fresh ideas and mobility as a youth organisation and shift the world with too much competition and expansion activities into a more healthy one for both people and nature. They create opportunities to meet new peoples and to start new actions by involving many local people by encouraging activities of NGO and local communities, while promoting global friendships, understanding and solidarity.

South Korea

SCI South Korea was founded in 1965. It now has about 400 members and has an extensive network of local voluntary groups. It organises weekend and one day projects for its members on a regular basis, as well as study and social activities. South Korea has only started to organise and participate in international activities fairly recently, running 2 international projects in 2001.
